Meet Melanie

Melanie Davis, PhD

Certified Sexuality Educator, AASECT

My experience as a sexuality educator began in 1984, as a patient educator for Planned Parenthood. A few years later, in 1999, I was certified to lead a comprehensive program called Our Whole Lives Lifespan Sexuality Education for junior high students. Their parents’ requests for advice led me to create workshops on communication about sex.
From that modest beginning, I have crafted a career devoted to helping people learn about sexuality and sexual health and helping them communicate about sensitive topics with ease. As an AASECT-Certified Sexuality Educator, I consult with individuals and couples; deliver programs and workshops for consumers; train medical students; health care providers and other professionals; and develop resource materials and curricula. In addition, I am the lead sexuality educator for the New Jersey Center for Sexual Wellness and am on the Board of Directors for the Sexuality and Aging Consortium at Widener University. I am an adjunct professor of human sexuality courses at both Moravian College and Widener University.
I believe that sexuality is a positive part of life that should be approached with respect, care, integrity, and when appropriate, humor. I also believe that people of all ages benefit from developmentally appropriate education that is communicated in objectively and non-judgmentally. My work is informed by my active involvement in the sexuality education and health care communities, my training in the Widener University Graduate Program in Human Sexuality, my continuing education, and my interactions with clients and students.
