To Bully is to Torture
February 27, 2011
Children and young adults are often bullied because they don’t match their peers’ expectations of what “real” boys and girls act like, look like, speak like, or dress like. Young people who are perceived to be non-traditional in their gender identity or gender expression, or those who are or appear to be non-heterosexual are at great risk for bullying that can lead to acting out, illness, depression, and suicide.
In a new column, former Westfield, NJ teacher and newspaper reporter Millicent K. Brody offers some helpful suggestions for dealing with young bullies. Read Brody’s column here.

Female-friendly Porn? You bet!
February 21, 2011
What does women-friendly porn look like? No, it’s not guys doing housework, despite the jokes. It’s erotica that respects women, focuses on sexual pleasure and equity (meaning, it’s not all about the in-and-out of standard porn).
BeautifulAgony.Com — I was introduced to this site in a graduate school course — that’s what happens when you study human sexuality! The site features videos of indivuals on camera from the neck up, bringing themselves to orgasm alone or, in some cases, with a partner not shown on camera. I love the diversity of people and their expressions, which range from earnest and hardworking to joyful and transcendent. Everyone is beautifully uninhibited. Check it out solo or with a partner.
HotMoviesforHer.com — This pay-per-minute site features porn that has been professionally reviewed by feminist sexuality educators. It’s 8 cents a minute, but who cares, if it gets you off?
Directors to look for:
Dana Dane — Porn from a lesbian perspective. A real lesbian, not an actress pretending for a guy’s sake. Visit her work at Erocktavision.
Kelly Holland — This former Vivid Pictures staffer makes high quality films for her own company, Chick Media.
Shine Louise Houston — Featuring films from all perspectives on the female gender spectrum, Houston’s work may be too kinky for some; others will love the diversity of performers and action. Find her work here.
Petra Joy — Joy’s films focus on female fantasies. Her latest film, Feeling It, was release by Femme Productions.
Candida Royale — Creator of Femme Productions, Candida turned from acting in porn to creating it, in response to her growing interest in female-friendly porn. Too many films to list her, so visit the Femme Productions link about to see her catalog.
Anna Span – Lesbian sex, straight sex, bisexual sex and group sex. Sex with toys, food and other household items. Realistic actors and action with many shots taken from the woman’s perspective on male partners. Her films include Good Service, Hoxton Honey, Uniform Behaviour, Pound a Punnet and Toy With Me.
